Real Escapes
at MISSION INN RESORT & CLUB
STAYING ON COURSE
“It’s challenging to please so many people for
a week, but Mission Inn pulled it off ... again.”
— Jim Owen,
ncaa TOurnamenT hOsT
Jim owen is on a mission — appropriaTely on the manicured grounds at Mission Inn Resort and Club. More specifically, he’s steering a golf cart around colorful foliage toward the first tee at El Campeon, one of the highest ranked courses in Florida. Owen is the Director of Golf at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta and has come to Mission Inn as official organizer of the NCAA Division III Men’s and Women’s Golf Champi- onships. All of the morning’s players have moved on from the first hole, leaving an inquisitive visitor alone at the tee with a question: How does this all come to- gether — the 215 players, 47 schools from every corner of the country, hundreds of fans, 75 volunteers, and weeks of coordination? Jim gets right to it.
→ This is the straight answer. We’ve done our re- search and we cannot find a more ideal place for this major event. Two bonafide championship-caliber courses [El Campeon and Las Colinas] right outside the guest rooms, and yet to have it quiet for tourna- ment play ... those are very hard qualities to find.
→ There’s no stress here. That’s a reflection of the staff and the surroundings. That said, there’s plenty of stress on the players trying to win a national title.
→ We’ve come here for nine championships now. Honestly, I don’t want to go anywhere else. The hospitality, facilities, family ambience, and amazing courses make for an unparalleled event. It all makes me look really good as the host official.
